At Paws and Claws Medical Center, we care for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and pocket pets. Our proactive, preventive wellness care helps our pet patients live a long, active and healthy life. We provide a range of Troutdale and Gresham veterinary services to meet the continually changing needs of your pet.
During an annual wellness exam, our veterinarian will provide a complete physical exam, test for parasites and may conduct diagnostic blood work. These tests are an important baseline for your pet’s health, helping our veterinary team identify potential health problems before physical symptoms are present.
Oregon state law requires dogs and cats to be vaccinated against Rabies. Our veterinarian strongly recommends that all pets receive core vaccinations and regular booster shots. Our canine vaccinations include DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus), Leptospirosis, Coronavirus, Lymes and Bordetella. All felines, including indoor cats, should receive the FVRCP shot for protection against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.
Older pets can suffer from a number of health concerns, including arthritis, thyroid disorders, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. We recommend semi-annual wellness exams for senior pets and offer our custom “Senior at Seven” wellness program. This helps us detect and treat health problems as early as possible. With early detection, some conditions such as arthritis can be managed through non-invasive vet care and dietary supplements.
An annual pet dental cleaning prevents the build-up of plaque along the gum line. Without regular cleanings, this plaque can push the gums away from the teeth, forming pockets susceptible to bacterial infections. Pets can suffer from painful oral health problems, including periodontal disease, stomatitis and bacterial infections. During a pet dental cleaning, we scrape away plaque build-up and polish the teeth. The clinic uses digital dental radiology which allows us to find any problems that may exist below the gum line before they can harm your pet's health. This reduces the risk for gum disease and helps improve doggy breath.
Our veterinary hospital partners with Antech, a local vet diagnostic lab. This ensures the most accurate diagnostic test results at a low, affordable cost. Most test results will be available within 24-hours. For urgent and emergency care, our in-house chemistry analyzer can provide rapid results. We evaluate ear and skin cytologies in-house, as well as skin fungal cultures. A Board Certified Radiologist also reviews all of our digital x-rays.
Our veterinary hospital uses advanced surgical techniques and support technology to ensure that every operation, no matter how routine or complicated, goes smoothly for your pet. We use Sevolflurane gas anesthesia, the safest anesthetic currently available. We follow strict pain management and sterilization protocols for the comfort and safety of your pet. Our heated pet surgery table helps pets relax. During every operation, we carefully monitor pets via ECG, blood pressure and oxygen readings, and offer IV fluid therapy for all surgical operations.
In the event of a veterinary health emergency, every second counts. We provide emergency vet care, including circulation/cardiac compressions. No appointment is necessary; simply give us a call when you are on the way and our veterinarian will be ready to assist upon arrival.
