Our Troutdale veterinary hospital welcomes you to our website. Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center is a family-owned practice dedicated to providing the highest quality care for dogs, cats, birds, exotics, small pets and small mammals. We are one of the only veterinary hospitals in the Troutdale and Gresham communities to offer exotic vet care. Our talented veterinarians offer a pet wellness program that includes spay neuter care and vaccinations. We also offer pet dental and emergency vet care. We work closely with Multnomah County Animal Services to provide emergency care services for strays found on the streets. We also provide free exams to pets adopted from their shelter or from the Oregon Humane Society. In addition to this, we also work closely with Rabbit Advocates and their mission to place rabbits into loving homes.

Originally founded as a house call service by Dr. Ken DeRemer, a veterinarian since 1983, the door to our veterinary hospital opened in 1994. We are proud to have served the Troutdale and Gresham pet communities for over 17 years and look forward to many more years of service. Veterinarian Christina Huntsinger and veterinarian Monica Pollock join Dr. DeRemer at Paws and Claws. Dr. Huntsinger and Dr. DeRemer are experienced providers of emergency vet care, dog surgery, senior pet care and routine wellness screenings. Here at Paws and Claws, we are committed to keeping our practice small and local, ensuring our veterinary team delivers the best quality care and outstanding customer service in a friendly, family-oriented environment.
Our pet wellness program includes annual check-ups, vaccinations and routine services such as spay and neuter surgeries. We also encourage pet owners to bring their dogs and cats in for regular pet dental cleanings. Many pet owners are unaware that the majority of dogs and cats suffer from plaque build-up and gum disease, which can lead to a serious infection. A regular dental cleaning with our veterinarian, along with routine wellness exams, will help your pet live a long, healthy and active life.

Our veterinary hospital is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic technology, including digital radiology, for the highest quality emergency vet care, including dog surgery. In the event of an emergency, we welcome all Troutdale and Gresham pets – no appointment required. We do request that you call to let us know you are on your way so we can have a veterinarian ready to assist upon arrival. If your pet is sick or you feel your pet cannot wait for a regularly scheduled appointment, we also offer urgent care services. Our friendly front desk staff will do their best to squeeze your pet in for a visit between appointments.
In addition to wellness, dental and emergency care, we also offer pet surgery, radiology and pain management services. We send most of our laboratory samples to a local lab for affordable and accurate testing; we typically have results within 24-hours. Our in-clinic pharmacy offers quick prescription refills at affordable prices. We offer "Home Again" Microchipping to help reunite you with your pet in the event your pet is lost.
We also offer compassionate hospice and end-of-life care for your pet. Saying goodbye is painful and difficult decision, and we are here to make the process as easy as possible.
If you are new to our veterinary hospital, we invite you to visit our “New Patient Center.” You can learn more about what to expect during your first visit, fill out our New Patient Registration Form in advance, and learn about our different payment options.
At Paws and Claws, we are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership while providing your pet with the best possible compassionate care. We look forward to serving you and your pet!
