Pet Surgery From Our Troutdale Veterinarian

At Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center, our veterinarian in Troutdale can perform a number of dog and cat surgery services here in our office. We take great pride in using only the latest in surgical technology to serve your pet with the highest standard of care. Our compassionate and experienced pet surgeons work tirelessly to perform your pet’s procedure safely and successfully.

Reasons Why Your Pet May Need Surgery

There are many reasons as to why your pet may need surgery. The most “routine” reason for surgery in our office is that of spay and neuter, which we recommend for just about all cats and dogs who are of the appropriate age and size. This surgery will not only prevent your pet from reproducing but will protect him or her from a number of reproductive health issues later in life.

In addition to spay and neuter procedures, we also offer a number of other surgical procedures in our office. These include:

  • Biopsy Surgery (to remove a tumor or growth for testing)
  • Emergency Vet Surgery

The Importance of Anesthesia During Cat or Dog Surgery

For any cat or dog surgery performed at Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center, we will place your pet carefully under anesthesia. We understand that the thought of having your pet put under anesthesia can be nerve-racking, but there are many reasons as to why this is necessary with any surgical procedure. For starters, putting a dog or cat under anesthesia ensures that they are stress-free, calm, and do not feel a thing. It also helps to protect our surgical team as the procedure is performed.

If your pet needs surgery, we will perform a pre-anesthetic evaluation (emergency surgeries may be an exception to this). This evaluation helps us to ensure that your pet does not have any risks of being placed under anesthesia and helps us get a better idea as to how high or low of a dosage your pet needs. For all pets placed under anesthesia, careful monitoring of vital signs before, during, and after surgery is a must. Our veterinary team takes our commitment to your pet’s safety very seriously, and putting a pet under general anesthesia is not something we take treat lightly.

Post-Op Care Tips and Guidance From Our Team

Once your pet has awoken from anesthesia following a surgery, we will contact you and let you know when it is time to pick your pet up. When you arrive, we will give you some specific guidance and advice on caring for your pet post-surgery. This may include advice on how to administer medication to your pet, signs of complications to watch out for, and tips on helping your pet stay comfortable during the recovery process. Our goal is to ensure that you are confident in taking your pet home and caring for him or her. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns at any point, you are always encouraged to contact our office for additional guidance.
